My ARD meeting was in May of last year, but now my child is failing two classes. I've tried to visit with the teacher, but what else can I do? The federal and state law tell us an ARD meeting must be held at least once a year, but you as the parent and or guardian may ask for an ARD meeting at other times of the year. For example, let's say you attended your child's ARD meeting last spring in the month of April, but now it is October of the next school year and you have found out your child is failing two classes. You, as the parent or guardian, may request an ARD meeting to discuss the failure with your child's teachers and other members of the ARD committee. One. Put the date on your letter. Two, give your child's full name and the name of your child's main teacher or current class placement. And three, say why you are asking for an R to be scheduled, for example, to discuss my child's failing grade. And four, give your address and a daytime phone number where you can be reached. Remember, it is always best to make a copy of the letter for your child's records. Once the school district has your request, they must schedule the ARD meeting or let you know within five days why they will not be scheduling the ARD. In summary, you as the parent or guardian may ask for an ARD meeting to talk about the concerns you have for your child's success at school.
